"Du fond du coeur" –From the bottom of the heart– is The Vogs’ newest album. 10 Soul songs, mostly sung in french and that keep alive the legacy of French Soul of the 60s.
On the 9 vocal compositions of this new opus, the candor of French Yéyé combines with an authentic Soul dipped in Garage to sing the ups and downs of love and to chant Girl Power ("Les filles aussi").
In Christelle Amoussou's superb French adaptation of the classic "You Keep Me Hanging On" by The Supremes, the fast tempo and horns hooks support the depth of Nadia Hassani's voice which expresses all the frustration of a one-sided love. In "Pour que tu ne m'oublies pas", the tempo slows down and summons the legacy of a "Willie Mitchell like"Southern Soul " while "Faire le premier pas" explores the little practiced lands of a Rhythm'n Blues in French with wild accents inherited from the Animals or the Spencer Davis Group.
"Ouvre ton coeur" is the perfect example that there is a French-speaking path for bright and intense pieces with rich choirs such as those produced by the glorious Motown or by the unjustly forgotten 60s French girl group "Les Princesses".
On the album's two English-language tracks, the band pays homage to the Northern Soul tradition in the vibrant "The Light" and explores lands rich in psyche, hypnotic scents in a new epic version of Q-Sounds' now Classic "I wanna Tell You."
If we add to this the very poppy "Faire semblant" and the superb instrumental cameo "No Maracas" we have all the ingredients of a unique album that will bring its stone to the building in construction of French Soul.
