Written and composed by Qsounds Recording’s now unavoidable duo Ludovic Bors/Christelle Amoussou, Principles Of Joy’s second album is recorded and mixed by sound engineer Tom VDH at La Forge Studio.
Just like the French department they come from, their second opus is titled 93, and is rough, intense, deep. Soul sisters Sarah Ibrahim and Rachel Yarabou lend their powerful voices to the songs exploring the vicissitudes of love and life.
Tunes like «The man I want », « Leave me alone », « No matter what » draw inspiration from Hi’s studios southern mid tempo productions as well as from New York classic hip hop : powerful drums, hypnotic bass and haunting loops will definitely tease quite some beat makers.
« Ready to go » and « God only knows » are real up tempos reminding us that Soul is a music to dance to, that nourishes both the body and the soul.
With « Be good to me » or « Start from scratch » the band’s music guides you into a cinematic and psychedelic dimension following in the footsteps of artists like Curtis Mayfield, Willie Hutch or The Goblins.
Finally, through the heartbreaking down tempo « It’s been been a mess » and their powerful cover of Adele’s classic « He won’t go », the Principles Of Joy pay tribute to Deep Soul and Blues.
P.O.J is definitely one of the most exciting bands of the contemporary Soul music scene and it’s in vinyle that they once again engrave the testimony to it.
